I really need some help from someone who knows how to connect a wireless router to a windows 7 laptop?

Hiii I really need some help, For the first time ever i have ordered a wireless router, to be exact Its a Range-Max wireless-n 150 router wpn824n by NetGear i have purchased it from new-egg.com but the serial number is missing! I have opened a new Internet network using my PCs name and used the security pin located on the back of the router as my security key but i still have no internet access even though my signal picks up and says excellent which im guessing is the wifi on my router..i have tried renewing the ip with the command P. but nothing happens..i cant register my product at netgear without the SN or cannot download the software and this product come with no Cd :/ My windows 7 cannot find a problem so i don't know what to try next please help me with some new ideas or advice, I know their has to be something i am not trying.
